Instagram has officially announced that starting October 21st, the desktop version of the site will have image and video uploading functionality, giving social media managers and content creators a more centralised way to manage their IG presence.

At this time, the process, which will facilitate the posting of photos and videos of less than one minute in length, will not include uploads of Stories or Reels. However, it will make it a little bit easier for social media managers to stay on top of their various apps and posts by allowing them to upload content for each platform from a single location – so you won’t have to keep saving images in different ways to then upload from your phone, etc.

Instagram has been testing desktop posting for a while, with a public test of desktop uploads launched in June.

As a result, only a few people have had access to the choice for a few months, but soon it will be available to all users worldwide, adding another factor to your decision.

Not only that, but the company also announced a number of new features that will be made available this week.

Starting today, there’s a new “Collabs” feature that’s currently described as a “test” and will “allow people to co-author both Feed posts and Reels.” From the tagging screen on Instagram, users can now invite another account to be a collaborator.

Of course, you could already upload Instagram posts from your desktop using the device selection in Inspector mode on the website. You can use mobile functions on the desktop if you go to a mobile form of the Instagram.com website, so there have been ways to do this for a while.

However, this will improve the process by making it a more integrated, official system, which might be a great help to social media managers trying to streamline their workflow and publish modified graphics and visuals created in other apps more simply.

Instagram has been gradually expanding its desktop capabilities. It upgraded the Stories viewing experience on PC and offered the ability to view live feeds from the desktop version of the app last year.

Aside from the benefits for social media managers and content creators, providing more ways into the Instagram experience will enable more people to use the platform. But we are guessing that the majority of requests for this update, specifically, are from people who thrive on making content and looking to improve their process, which they can now do. Instagram.com’s updated upload options will be available starting this week.
