Instagram remains one of the most important players in the social media world in 2022, and for good reason. The platform is always expanding and developing, which means that new features are added on a regular basis.

Keeping up with social media platform updates is essential if you’re a social media marketer. That’s why we have put together a list of new Instagram updates that you should keep a track of.

  • Post reminder feature

People who see a particular Instagram post can now opt-in to receive a reminder about that event. They will receive three-event notifications: an activity feeds notice 24 hours before the event, an activity feed and push notification 15 minutes before the event, and an activity feed and push notification during the event.

  • Story likes

Instagram has also launched Private Story Likes. The function, as the name implies, would allow users to like someone’s Instagram story without having to respond to it in the DMs. The aim of this feature is to allow users to express their support and love for other users while avoiding clogging their DMs section.

  • Personal stories can be boosted

One can now boost active stories and stories that have been featured in your highlights or archived. Boosted stories will run for the number of times users specify. The active story on the user’s profile will disappear in 24 hours, but the boost article will continue to run as an ad. Even Archived and Highlighted stories can be boosted.

  • Instagram post collabs

One of the new features is the ability to create collaborative posts. This means that the post will display on your feed and the profile of your collaborator.

To make a shared post, one must start with an ordinary post (Reels also work), then click Tag people, and Invite the designated collaborator.

  • Reels visual replies

After Reels were introduced Instagram enhanced that feature and called it ‘Reels Visual Replies’. This feature lets you use videos to respond to comments (left by any follower who comments on your Reels articles).

This feature is yet another wonderful opportunity for producers to engage with their audience by developing content inspired by their comments section activity.

  • Profile Embedding

Embedding Instagram photographs or videos on a website isn’t new, but it was previously impossible to embed an entire profile in a native-looking manner. Until this new update came up.

This update has made it easy to highlight Creator’s profiles around the Internet.

  • Instagram map search

The Map Search is another one of Instagram’s new features. This feature, which is identical to Google Maps, allows users to locate various businesses on Instagram.

Map search is available within Instagram’s regular browser, which users can use to search for other users, hashtags, and so on.

  • Instagram Playback

Instagram announced the ‘Playback feature’ that allows users to re-share their best Stories on the occasion of New Year’s Eve in 2021.  It proved to be an effective way for people to recollect their favourite memories from the previous year.

  • Hidden Like count

Since 2019, Instagram has tried to remove the number of likes from posts but it has been successfully implemented in 2022. One can now choose whether or not to hide likes in your posts.

To do so, go to one of your posts, click the three dots in the upper right corner, and then select ‘Hide like count.’

Instagram is rapidly evolving and improving user experience on a daily basis. From simple changes like moving some of the buttons around to major ones like adding totally new features, this social media platform will try to never bore its users.
