DigitalOcean

DigitalOcean is a global cloud infrastructure and developer platform serving startups, developers, and digital-native businesses across multiple markets. The brand operates in a competitive cloud ecosystem where awareness, trust, and developer adoption depend heavily on community credibility, technical relevance, and consistent visibility across global digital channels.

For DigitalOcean, The Social Lions worked across two campaign tracks: lead generation through social listening and an influencer campaign across APAC, the US, and EMEA. Both campaigns were designed to support DigitalOcean’s visibility among developer, startup, and technology-led audiences through platform-native communication.

DigitalOcean needed a campaign approach that could build qualified awareness beyond conventional paid media. The objective was to reach audiences where cloud, developer tools, startup infrastructure, AI deployment, and hosting conversations were already happening.

The client wanted The Social Lions to support two clear goals:

  • Identify and engage relevant conversations across digital communities for lead generation.
  • Build credibility through influencer-led communication across APAC, the US, and EMEA.
  • Position DigitalOcean’s products through use-case-led content instead of broad brand messaging.
  • Create visibility among developers, startups, founders, and technical decision-makers.

The brief required communication that felt relevant to technical audiences while still being commercially useful for a global campaign structure.

Social Listening and Lead Generation

The Social Lions supported DigitalOcean with a social listening-led lead generation approach focused on identifying relevant conversations across developer, startup, and cloud communities. The work involved tracking discussions where users were already speaking about hosting, cloud infrastructure, deployment, AI tools, server management, cost efficiency, and developer workflows. Instead of forcing brand-led messages into cold environments, The Social Lions focused on conversation-first discovery and contextual engagement.

Community Conversation Mapping

The Social Lions mapped platform conversations across relevant digital spaces to understand where DigitalOcean could be introduced naturally. The campaign looked at audience intent, recurring pain points, competitor mentions, product-fit signals, and community behavior. This helped identify opportunities where DigitalOcean could be positioned as a practical cloud solution without sounding interruptive or promotional.

Influencer Campaign Strategy

For the influencer campaign, The Social Lions helped structure a regional influencer approach across APAC, the US, and EMEA. The campaign was planned to engage 15 influencers over 3 months, with 5 influencers activated per month across key markets. The focus was on creators who could speak to developers, startups, cloud users, and digital-native businesses with technical credibility.

Creator Communication and Script Direction

The Social Lions worked on influencer communication that kept the messaging use-case-led and developer-specific. Scripts and creator briefs were aligned to DigitalOcean’s campaign guidelines, including clear separation between Gradient AI and GPU Droplets, avoiding server-related oversimplifications, and not positioning GPU Droplets for India where GPU droplet capacity was not available in the India data center. This ensured that creator-led messaging stayed technically accurate and regionally responsible.

Regional Campaign Adaptation

The influencer campaign was adapted across APAC, the US, and EMEA to account for different audience maturity levels, technical use cases, and product familiarity. The Social Lions focused on making each creator brief relevant to the region and audience segment instead of using one generic global script. This allowed DigitalOcean to speak to developers and startup audiences with greater contextual accuracy.

The Social Lions helped DigitalOcean build a two-track campaign system that combined community-led lead generation with regional influencer credibility.

2 campaign workstreams managed - The Social Lions supported DigitalOcean across social listening-led lead generation on reddit, quora, linkedin and twitter and influencer marketing.

3 global regions covered - The influencer campaign was structured for APAC, the US, and EMEA.

3-month influencer campaign planned - The campaign was organized across a 3-month rollout for consistent creator-led visibility.

15 influencers planned across the campaign - The regional influencer model was designed around 15 total creator collaborations.

5 influencers per month - The rollout was structured to maintain steady monthly visibility instead of concentrating all creator activity in one short burst.

Developer-specific script guidelines applied - The Social Lions aligned campaign communication with DigitalOcean’s technical guidelines, including product distinction, regional capacity accuracy, and use-case-led positioning.

This gave DigitalOcean a campaign structure that supported both demand discovery and credibility building. The social listening track helped identify audience intent, while the influencer track helped translate product messaging into creator-led communication across three major global regions.

The client’s sales and marketing teams appreciated the campaign strategy, execution, and overall support provided by The Social Lions. They specifically praised the lead pipelines created for them, especially across the APAC region. The impact and quality of work also led them to refer The Social Lions to other clients for similar services.
